We are advancing alongside UTP in the project’s water supply studies.

Puerto Barú in David and the Center for Hydraulic and Hydrotechnical Research of the Technological University of Panama (UTP) are working on water supply estimates for the project, as well as air monitoring and carbon monitoring in the area where this multipurpose infrastructure will be built.

Coordination with the Technological University is part of the academic cooperation, research, and outreach agreement signed in 2023, which enables the development of joint research, consulting, advisory services, staff training, internships, and graduation projects, among other initiatives.

During a working session between specialists from both parties, alternatives identified in a study conducted by the university were analyzed, focusing on the identification of new water sources to supply the project’s operations, as well as to benefit the population of the Chiriquí district, which faces limitations in access to potable water.

Similarly, UTP scientists presented their proposals to develop a carbon monitoring and air quality monitoring plan within the mangrove ecosystem, as outlined in the project’s Category III Environmental Impact Study, duly approved by the Ministry of Environment in 2024.

Technical specialists from Puerto Barú in David and UTP agreed on a work schedule for the implementation of these initiatives, reaffirming the use of science in the management and execution of this logistics facility.
