Puerto Barú in David reaffirms its commitment to fishing communities in Chiriquí.
Puerto Barú in David participated in the Fishermen Assistance Tour (GAP), held at the port of Boca Chica, an initiative organized by the Panama Aquatic Resources Authority (ARAP) aimed at bringing services, guidance, and direct support to men and women dedicated to the artisanal fishing sector in the region.
CIFEM (Center for Research, Training, and Entrepreneurship) was also present during the event. The organization focuses on promoting training, sustainability, and community strengthening processes, alongside the Women of Fish Skin Association, a group of artisans from the district of Pedregal who transform fish skin into handcrafted products, promoting entrepreneurship and the sustainable use of marine resources.
During the activity, ARAP General Director Eduardo Carrasquilla highlighted Puerto Barú’s participation as a future port facility with the potential to establish direct connections with the province’s fishing and aquaculture sectors, as well as the value of community initiatives that transform fishing byproducts into handicrafts and sustainable ventures that generate positive impacts within local communities.
Puerto Barú thus reaffirms its interest in continuing to participate in spaces that promote sustainable development and strengthen collaboration among institutions, the private sector, and community stakeholders across the region.
