COEL Strengthens Logistics Integration in Western Panama with Visit to Puerto Barú

As part of the first COEL 2026 Expanded Trade Associations Congress – Western Region Logistics Cluster, members of the Logistics Business Council (COEL) visited Puerto Barú in David to learn more about the project and its development vision for the region.

During the tour, COEL representatives had the opportunity to learn firsthand about the scope and outlook of the port, as well as its role within the national logistics chain. The visit took place within the framework of the Western Region Logistics Cluster, an initiative aimed at positioning Chiriquí as a relevant hub within Panama’s trade and infrastructure network.

Chiriquí accounts for a significant share of the agricultural, agro-industrial, and commercial production of western Panama, but has historically depended on logistics infrastructure centralized in the capital, increasing transportation costs and transit times. Puerto Barú in David addresses this need as a port platform that brings shipping points closer to production centers and strengthens the competitiveness of regional supply chains.

“Puerto Barú will not only have a direct impact on the logistics sector, but will also create opportunities for tourism, agriculture, job creation, and the attraction of foreign investment. For this reason, we believe it is essential for this project to move forward as soon as possible and become a true driver of development for Chiriquí and the entire country,” said Danilo Bustamante, President of COEL.

These types of meetings strengthen coordination among the logistics, business, and productive sectors, creating new opportunities for Chiriquí and the country’s western region.

Puerto Barú thus reaffirms its commitment to regional economic development, connecting Chiriquí with new logistics opportunities.
