Strengthening Environmental Participation Together with CIFEm and Community Nurseries
As part of the commitments established in its Category III Environmental Impact Assessment, Puerto Barú in David continues to advance the implementation of measures outlined in its Environmental Management Plan, incorporating sustainability, community participation, and specialized technical support from the early stages of the project.
Recently, representatives from the project and the Center for Research, Training, and Entrepreneurship (CIFEM) conducted a technical visit to organizations that are part of Panama’s National Network of Agro-Environmental Nurseries (ANREVA). The purpose of the visit was to monitor the production of organic substrates, grasses, and seedlings that will be used in future project-related activities.
These community-based organizations have years of experience in ecological restoration and have strengthened their capabilities through training programs promoted by national and international institutions. Their work includes the production of organic substrates enriched with mountain microorganisms, as well as plant species that help improve soil conditions and support ecological restoration processes.
Puerto Barú in David has committed to integrating environmental management from the earliest stages of the project. As part of this vision, it works alongside technical partners and community organizations that contribute knowledge, experience, and nature-based solutions to strengthen compliance with established environmental measures and promote responsible environmental stewardship.
Through this collaborative approach, Puerto Barú in David supports local capacities, fosters strategic partnerships, and advances the development of a port project where sustainability is embedded from the very beginning.
