Water Tank Rehabilitation Will Benefit More Than 5,000 Residents
The district of Chiriquí is moving toward a solution to its drinking water supply challenges through the rehabilitation of a 20,000 gallon water storage tank, an initiative led by the local Community Board with the support of Puerto Barú in David. The project seeks to restore a key piece of infrastructure that will strengthen water storage and distribution in the community after years of disuse and deterioration.
For decades, residents of the district of Chiriquí have lived with the uncertainty of not knowing when water would be available in their homes. The lack of a reliable water supply has particularly affected children and older adults, as well as essential services such as the School of Chiriquí and the local health center.
The tank, which has been affected by corrosion and wear, will undergo structural rehabilitation to strengthen the water supply system, optimize water distribution, and move toward a more stable and efficient service for the area.
Puerto Barú in David joined this community initiative as part of its commitment to the sustainable development of neighboring communities, supporting projects that generate tangible benefits for residents and contribute to improving their quality of life.
“We believe that community development begins by addressing fundamental needs. That is why we are supporting this initiative, which represents a concrete improvement for thousands of people and demonstrates the value of collaboration among the community, local authorities, and the private sector in creating lasting change,” said Ismael González, General Director of Puerto Barú in David.
The rehabilitation project will restore the system’s storage capacity and help improve water service in areas such as Bella Vista, Betania, Calle Abajo, and Las Lajitas, providing significant relief to the communities that depend on this infrastructure.
“This tank has been neglected for more than ten years, deteriorating without any response while our people have suffered from a lack of water. Today, we are taking an important step toward a concrete solution that will improve service for thousands of residents,” said Enoch Ávila, Representative of the district of Chiriquí.
The importance of the support provided by the National Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (IDAAN) was also highlighted, as its participation will be essential in ensuring the operational conditions necessary for the efficient functioning of the tank once rehabilitation is completed.
This initiative reflects the value of collaboration among the private sector, local authorities, and public institutions in generating practical solutions that positively impact the lives of communities, particularly when it comes to a resource as essential as water.
