22 Ngäbe-Buglé organizations engage with Puerto Barú from the comarca
As a significant milestone toward strengthening Ngäbe-Buglé entrepreneurship and promoting their cultural richness, more than 22 entrepreneurial organizations from the comarca held a meeting with Puerto Barú in David, in the community of Llano Tugrí, the comarca’s capital.
The session was led by the organization Monico Cruz and brought together representatives from the three regions in a dialogue focused on identifying opportunities for sustainable economic development, based on the tourism, cultural, and productive potential of their communities.
This initial engagement aimed to empower the Ngäbe-Buglé population through training processes, organizational strengthening, and the development of potential collaboration agreements. The shared vision is to prepare communities to welcome both national and international visitors attracted by experiences rooted in their traditions, customs, handicrafts, and connection with nature.
During the meeting, the value of cultural identity as a driver of development was highlighted, along with the importance of creating tools that enable entrepreneurs to strengthen their capabilities, formalize their initiatives, and expand their market opportunities.
Ismael González, General Director of Puerto Barú in David, emphasized the need for change expressed by each of the indigenous organizations and reaffirmed the commitment to inclusion, regional development, and the creation of partnerships that generate real opportunities for communities respecting their identity and promoting sustainable growth from within their own territories.
